About My Practice
-
My name is Bethany Akudike (she/her). I am a licensed professional counselor in Texas and offer virtual therapy services to people statewide. I have worked in senior living communities offering grief counseling for seniors and their caregivers. I have also worked for a trauma and dissociation-informed PHP/IOP program in addition to private practice counseling. I believe in looking beyond symptoms and behaviors to find the root cause of an issue. I strive to make sure clients are not only heard but understood. There are reasons behind the behaviors and feelings that mark our lives, and I want to help people discover what those reasons are and how to address them.

I use a person-centered approach and have worked with folks across the lifespan dealing with depression, anxiety, and life transitions. I specialize in complex PTSD, grief, religious trauma, and dissociative disorders. I am trained in EMDR and Trauma Model Therapy. I can incorporate elements of these modalities into my work with clients of all ages. I believe in acknowledging my client's strengths and empowering them to make the choices that will be best for them, both in and out of therapy sessions. I am accepting clients age 11+ via telehealth!

The name "Present Perspectives" has layers of meanings. The present is the moment we are living in now--the time frame that we work in to make changes. Our present is influenced by our past, and when we can feel safe in the present, our past can be processed more effectively. Trauma-focused therapy has a lot of emphasis on the past. Therapy is a bid for a better future. Safety and mindfulness in the present is what can allow for health in both of those areas. I am committed to working with you session by session, offering a nonjudgmental space for you to get to know yourself better and work towards healing.
I charge $115 for a standard hour session for self-pay clients. I am currently credentialed with Aetna commercial insurance plans, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar Health, UMR, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Quest Behavioral Health, Carelon Health, Cigna, and Baylor Scott & White insurance plans. Insurance plans vary, and I recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine your financial responsibility for covered sessions. Credit/debit cards are accepted and will be charged the day after a session. If you would like to see if I am able to take your insurance plan, please contact me!
Fees and Insurance
The No Surprises Act
Under the law, health care providers are required to provide clients who do not have or are not using insurance for their care, a Good Faith Estimate of the total cost of anticipated services to be rendered.
If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
